de la Salud (OMS) revelan que 2.500 millones de adultos ten\u00edan sobrepeso en el a\u00f1o 2022, y entre ellos, <strong>890 millones viv\u00edan con las consecuencias y qu\u00e9 puedes hacer para evitarla o reducirla. En primer lugar, <strong>una persona aumenta de peso cuando consume m\u00e1s calor\u00edas que las que gasta<\/strong>.<sup>3<\/sup> El cuerpo emplea ciertos nutrientes, como los hidratos de carbono o az\u00facares, prote\u00ednas y grasas de los alimentos para producir y almacenar energ\u00eda.<sup>3<\/sup> Con el tiempo, si ingieres m\u00e1s calor\u00edas de las que necesitas, por ejemplo para respirar, digerir alimentos y realizar actividad f\u00edsica, puedes desarrollar sobrepeso y obesidad.<sup>3<\/sup><\/p><p>Para saber si una persona tiene sobrepeso u obesidad, la manera m\u00e1s f\u00e1cil es estimar el<strong> \u00edndice de masa corporal (IMC), que se calcula dividiendo los kilogramos de peso por el cuadrado de la estatura en metros<\/strong>.<sup>3<\/sup> Este c\u00e1lculo lo har\u00e1 tu m\u00e9dico o nutricionista, pero para que tengas una orientaci\u00f3n, te damos ejemplos. Una persona adulta tiene sobrepeso si su IMC es igual o mayor a 25 kg\/m<sup>2<\/sup> y presenta obesidad si es igual o superior a 30 kg\/m<sup>2<\/sup>.<sup>2<\/sup><\/p><p><strong>Tambi\u00e9n es importante tener en cuenta la circunferencia de la cintura, ya que se sabe que la acumulaci\u00f3n de grasa en el abdomen es un factor de riesgo para la aparici\u00f3n de enfermedades cardiovasculares, lo que es m\u00e1s importante a\u00fan que el exceso de peso<\/strong>. La OMS establece que el valor m\u00e1ximo saludable de la circunferencia de cintura es de 88 cent\u00edmetros en la mujer y 102 cent\u00edmetros en el
